Not all cards benefit equally from grading. Some see massive price jumps after getting a 10, while others barely move. Here are ten cards from recent sets that consistently see strong returns after grading, based on actual UK market sales.
1. Umbreon VMAX (Alternate Art) - Evolving Skies
Still the king. Raw copies trade around £150 to £180. A graded 10 pushes past £450 regularly. The artwork is gorgeous and collector demand hasn't slowed down. This card is almost always worth submitting if the condition looks strong.
2. Charizard ex (Special Art Rare) - Obsidian Flames
Charizard cards always carry weight. The Special Art Rare from Obsidian Flames sits around £80 to £100 raw. Graded 10 copies sell for £200 to £250. Charizard's name recognition does a lot of heavy lifting here.
3. Giratina VSTAR (Alternate Art) - Lost Origin
One of the best alternate arts in the Sword & Shield era. Raw prices hover around £60 to £80. A 10 can fetch £180 to £220. The artwork features one of the more popular legendary Pokémon, which keeps demand consistent.
4. Pikachu VMAX (Rainbow Rare) - Vivid Voltage
Pikachu is Pikachu. This card does well because it's the mascot in a popular set. Raw copies go for £40 to £60. Graded 10s sell for £120 to £160. Not the biggest multiplier, but steady.
5. Rayquaza VMAX (Alternate Art) - Evolving Skies
Another Evolving Skies hit. Raw value sits around £70 to £90. A graded 10 pushes £200 to £250. Evolving Skies alternate arts as a whole are strong grading candidates.
6. Mew VMAX (Alternate Art) - Fusion Strike
A bit harder to find in perfect condition due to print quality issues. Raw copies are around £50. But a genuine 10 can hit £150 to £180, making the risk worthwhile if you're confident in the condition.
7. Lugia VSTAR (Secret Art Rare) - Silver Tempest
Raw value around £40 to £55. Graded 10 copies sell for £120 to £150. Lugia is a fan favourite that holds value well.
8. Gengar VMAX (Alternate Art) - Fusion Strike
One of the more popular ghost-type cards. Raw prices around £35 to £50. A 10 pushes to £100 to £130. The artwork is a standout.
9. Moltres V (Alternate Art) - Chilling Reign
The Galarian Moltres alternate art is one of those cards collectors specifically seek out. Raw copies go for £30 to £45. Graded 10s hit £90 to £120. Clean, striking artwork that looks brilliant in a slab.
10. Charizard UPC Promo (Metal or Standard)
The Ultra Premium Collection promos have their own market. Raw metal Charizard cards trade around £80 to £120. Graded 10s can reach £250+. The standard version has a lower entry point and still sees good grading returns.
A Note on Timing
Card values shift. What's listed here reflects the market as of early 2026. Always check recent sold listings on eBay before committing to grading. You want current data, not month-old prices.
